"My daughter was completely immersed in this book. At just-turned-9, she's aware of the recent increase in dog thefts, so this story was very relevant and thought-provoking, and sparked several conversations. Having said that, despite the darker subject matter, the characters are so endearing and in some cases comical that it's not a depressing read at all - in fact, it's giggle-out-loud funny in places and touching in others. It has a lovely message about teamwork and celebrating differences running through it, but it's naturally entwined with the plot so doesn't feel like anyone's being preached at (a pet hate in some other children's books!)."
